Formed in 1968, LION Engineering was set up to support the demands of the North Sea Drilling Industry, providing specialist machining and welding services to customers involved with the tough early years of exploration, drilling, and production processes both offshore and onshore.

Oilfield

LION Engineering was established to specialize in hard-facing, welding, and machining for the Oil and Gas industry in the UK. The company has been at the forefront of manufacturing precision downhole tools, working with major oilfield service companies to meet the industry's demands. Today, LION has a modern facility with advanced equipment and skilled staff to help, solve, and advise the medical, nuclear, military and other industry in general.

1968

LION formed to meet the needs of the new OIL & GAS industry

1970’s

The founders sold out to a public Group in 1973
1975 – Geoff Kimber-Smith joined LION as General Manager

1980’s

Geoff Kimber-Smith purchased LION in 1984
LION won QA British Standard BS 5750 quality accreditation

1990’s

1993 – LION moved to a new purpose built facility on Gapton Hall Road in Greath Yourmouth
LION Changed its name to LION Engineering Services in 1994

2000’s

In early 2000,s LION built three new additional workshops on the site
The QA department was expanded in this period to 6 man operational team with qualified personnel

2010’s

Plan to replace all manual machines with CNC machines
Fully concreting of the site yard and installing drainage membranes and tanks

2020’s

The acquisition of all minority shares by Geoff Kimber-Smith and the appointment of Maurice Cliffen and Tom Kimber-Smith to the board
Adopting a planned training opportunity for all personnel with a budget to support it
